A Secretly Capable Child Is Seeking For Her Dad (Novel) - Chapter 105
Chapter 105
“Can you not hear what I say! Move! Move, I tell you!!”
Reginald shouted.
But the soldiers only milled about in place.
“M, my lord….”
That was only natural, because in their eyes the barrier surrounding Agabert and Adeline looked far too solid.
And that was not all.
“Th, that red mist….”
The red mist that had been creeping out from the stable for some time now was a problem too.
Already, several knights had collapsed around it.
As though warning them that it was dangerous even to touch it.
“Uuseless wretches!”
At last, Reginald flew into a rage.
He picked up a sword that had fallen to the ground and slashed down at whatever soldier happened to be closest.
When the one he cut down collapsed with a groan, the soldiers turned toward him with pale faces.
“I am your master! I am the lord of Caldenvine Ridge! Any who do not obey me, I will cut off every last one of your heads!”
At the voice full of rage, the soldiers hesitated and gripped their swords again.
Their hands were trembling badly, but they too had nowhere left to retreat.
Because they knew Reginald’s cruelty better than anyone, having watched him from up close all this time.
“Ad, advance-!”
In the end, a soldier of officer rank squeezed his eyes shut and shouted.
“Bind the ruffians who harmed His Lordship!”
Then all the soldiers began charging toward the stable at once.
Though they had already lost many troops, there was still hope left.
Compared with Agabert, who numbered only a handful, Reginald’s soldiers still held the numerical advantage.
Having regained hope, Reginald let out a manic laugh.
“That’s right! Kill them all and take back the wi….!”
But he could not finish his words.
His bloodshot eyes shook without direction.
The charging soldiers too faltered and stopped in place.
“U, uaaaaagh-!”
Then irregular screams burst out here and there.
Because something rising up from the ground was knocking the soldiers down one by one.
“Pl, please save me!”
“My lord-! Save, sa, ughk!”
Reginald froze on the spot.
At the unbelievable sight, the hand holding his sword trembled like an aspen tree.
Before his eyes, the blue grass that had covered the back garden so thickly was dying black in an instant.
As though its life force were being taken away by something irresistible.
Breaking through that dried, withered grass, grotesque things he had never seen before began revealing themselves one after another.
“Wh, what is… this….”
Dust rose up.
Dark clouds gathered in the sky, and a damp smell stabbed into his nose.
“Th, they’re the dead-!”
The soldiers began fleeing in complete panic.
Reginald blankly watched the soldiers running past him toward the side opposite the lord’s castle.
But the soldiers did not get far before stopping in place.
Because their only escape route had already been blocked long ago.
Reginald dropped the sword he had been holding.
Before he knew it, all around was filled with mounds of earth risen as high as a person.
Then the surfaces of the earth mounds wriggled, and something began to walk out from inside.
Bones pocked with holes, like eroded rock.
“…Save me.”
The soldier standing at the very front fainted on the spot.
But the twisted bones moved as though alive and drove a rusted sword into the man’s body.
From between the finger bones gripping the sword, clumps of dust trickled down.
“U, uaaagh….!”
And that was not the end of it.
As the skeletons tightened the encirclement, the soldiers all dropped their weapons from their hands.
That was because the surrounding temperature suddenly plunged and a cold chill swept over them.
It was when Reginald still stood frozen like a statue.
“Thinking of my daughter and wife and territory’s residents who will be left behind, my heart is heavy.”
A reading voice came from behind.
Reginald doubted his ears and turned his head.
Outside the stable.
The platinum-blond little brat he had seen earlier was holding the former lord’s will in his hands.
“After I depart, the glory of Caldenviiine must continue… Reginald Caldeeenvine is to take charge of the protection of the family and the management of the territory.”
But in the next instant, the child, who had been reading the will clearly, closed her mouth.
Then he quietly lifted his head and looked at Reginald.
“…Until my heir, Adeline Caldenvine, reaches the age of adulthood.”
A gulp of dry saliva slid down his throat.
“Mister.”
The child took one step forward.
At once, the army of bones covering the back garden moved aside to the left and right, as if they had been waiting.
When a straight path opened between himself and the child, Reginald let out rough breaths and retreated backward.
“Do you know the book Greedy Squeaky?”
He was nothing but a child.
And yet Reginald himself could not understand why he was backing away.
But unlike him, the child looked not the slightest bit frightened.
“It’s the story where Squeaky goes into his friend’s snack storeroom and gets caught stealing and eating candy.”
The child kept taking one step, then another.
As the distance closed, Reginald staggered and looked around.
But there was no one who could help him.
The necks of the soldiers each had the swords of the dead risen from the earth hanging over them.
And Lecia had vanished somewhere.
“D, d, don’t come any closer!”
In a panic, Reginald again picked up the sword he had dropped.
However,
“…Don’t even think about it.”
Basto, who had approached, seized his arm brutally.
Reginald swallowed dryly and tensed his body.
The child had now come right up to his nose.
“Squeaky, you know, stole and ate soooo much of his friend’s candy. Then later he got caught and tried to run away.”
For an instant, a look almost as if calling him pathetic came into the innocent green eyes.
“But he couldn’t even run away. Do you know why?”
“Wh, what kind of ridiculous nonsense are you talking all of a sudden!”
The child let out a big sigh.
“Because his belly was too full, and his belly fat got stuck in the hole. The book says that’s what happens if you get too greedy.”
Reginald’s expression twisted.
But the child’s face remained only quite serious.
“Don’t steal other people’s things. Don’t lie. Keep your conscience. Even the little kids in Ladybug Class learn that and know it.”
“…Ha, hahaha.”
A hollow laugh burst out.
Reginald ground his teeth with all his strength.
“And what is it you mean to do with me now?”
The last shred of pride left before he crumbled flared in his eyes.
“I am the lord of this Caldenvine Ridge! Everything you are doing now is treason!”
The child frowned and covered his ears.
But Reginald shouted even more violently.
“If news of this reaches His Majesty the Emperor’s ears! Do you think he will let you bastards go?!”
He glared at the other members standing some distance away.
“You bastards are all condemned to death! Mere commoners, low mercenaries who live by hunting monsters! How dare you, how dare you lay hands on me, the lord…!”
[The traitor is not them, but you, Reginald.]
But at that moment, a blue apparition flashed before Reginald’s eyes.
After seeing it, Reginald’s eyes grew wide.
“H, how are you….”
The one who appeared before him was Stasia.
The wife of his elder brother, the woman he had personally killed with poison.
Stasia roughly seized Reginald’s throat with her pale hand.
Then white frost began forming over his skin.
