Rokusa, the consort of the conquering king Iskandar, becomes a widow while pregnant with his child. With no political backing, she is forced to marry his younger brother, the imperial prince Adarios. Those who wish to prop Adarios up as the next emperor accept Rokusa only in appearance, while secretly plotting her assassination.
