It took me reading another comment on another site saying basically what you were saying for it to finally click, and I was like WAIT, THAT’S what you were saying. The duke never really know what his daughter looked like because she wasn’t born yet when his family went missing. His wife was still pregnant they took her. So he imagined her as blonde (from his wife maybe) and with red eyes like him. It’s a logical guess since his sons probably have black hair like him and blue eyes probably from his wife, so it’s possible that he thinks his daughter would look more like his wife but with his eyes. Turns out she could have blue eyes and blonde hair, the spitting image of his wife
