Theory: In the original timeline demons/inter-dimensional creatures invaded. IN this timeline the online game community opened up portals to other worlds with their games. So either the game company being created in this world ended up accidentally blocking the demon invasion when they started opening up portals… OR… the game company actually ended up being the ones opening up a portal to the demons universe… only unlike other universes, opening up a portal in the games to the demons worlds was noticed because the demons had godlike magic so they tracked the portal and invaded earth.
This is my theory. It would explain why the NPC get scared.
