I would prefer wind too. Curiosity: In Brazil they try to make a monotrail using wind. You have a few tests but it is not working perfectly! Look for Aeromóvel!
If you have wind , you can skip the steam process, just store those wind in that tank for the pressure engine, work the same as steam , because all the steam engine needed are the pressure, yes steam engine are just a compressor engine . With that you can get rid of the furnace entirely. The author just don’t understand or don’t want to research about train.
