Yes, I think that’s it. Or they’re like a dept a colleague once told me about. It had a great reputation for high output but always lost its newbies. Why? Because they maintained the high output & reputation by giving masses of work to the new starters. The newbies did they demanding workload because they wanted to impress, but finally these people burnt out & either requested to go to a different department or just simply quit the firm. But they always gave the impression that everyone else in the team worked even harder than the newbies am& that it was all down to them that they couldn’t take it.This was all finally exposed when a contractor was brought in to the department to install a new system and new machines and reported them to his wife the HR manager. He overheard and saw enough to know that they were gaslighting the new starters. Their reputation and output dropped like a lead balloon.
